Alexanders are probably the ultimate "chick" drink. They are chocolatey and creamy, and delicious. Mix one up today for someone you love (or would like to love :-), or even for yourself!
A basic Alexander has equal parts of the liquor of your choice, Crème de Cacao, and some form of cream. The base liquor makes the biggest difference in the taste, of course, and most recipes will vary as to the exact proportions (see the recipes below).
Normally if you order an "Alexander" in the United States, your server will give you a drink made of Gin, but it never hurts to be specific if you have a preference. Brandy Alexanders are obviously made with Brandy, and so on.
Here are a few Alexander drinks you may want to try:
Alexander
2 oz Gin
2 oz White Crème de Cacao
2 oz Sweet Cream
Brandy Alexander
1 1/2 oz Brandy
1 oz Dark Crème de Cacao
1 oz Heavy Cream
Grated Nutmeg
Alexander’s Sister
1 oz Gin
1 oz Green Crème de Menthe
Fill with Cream
Some fun alterations of the Alexander include:
- Substitute vanilla ice cream for the cream in any of these drinks
- When making an Alexander (Gin), change the type of Crème de Cacao to Dark – this drink is called an Avalanche
- Changing out the base liquor to Rum, Whiskey, or Scotch would make a nice Alexander.
